January’s DFMM meeting will be held concurrently with the scotch tasting at the Ath on the 21st. 6PM sharp. Shoot for 5:45 just to make sure. Contact Alejandro to RSVP. (And you must RSVP.) If you don’t know how to contact Alejandro, contact me or Ryan and we’ll put you in touch.

Per group decision at the 11/19 meet up, we’re serving mead this year, and Clancey will be mulling it. W00, and stuff.

From last night’s Back Abbey trip (and from gale):
- 12/3: BONUS DFMM NIGHT WITH CLV. 7pm at The York in Eagle Rock. Be there or suffer some sort of wrath.
- 12/20: Father’s Office in Santa Monica. Let’s say 5pm.
- Bowling WHENEVER ALEJANDRO SAYS IT IS. NO ARGUMENTS.
Also worth noting: we’ll be choosing an imperial bowling czar for Q12009 at Father’s Office. If you can’t make it and you want your hat thrown in to the ring — CLV, I’m looking at you — say so in the comments.

Mark Rothko is the patron artist of the DFMM. Or at least he should be. How can you not get behind somebody painting a couple of rectangles on a canvas and calling it “art?” That’s all the way ballsy and awesome.
Even more awesome is the Tate Modern‘s super-slack response to hanging a couple of Rothko’s paintings sideways: screw it. We’re leaving them that way.
So bravo, Tate Modern. Your sloth is an inspiration to us all.

It’s that time of year again. This time, it’s an official DFMM event. We even have a poster! Grab your Santa suit, noise makers (voice, etc), your favorite winter drink, and join the fun.

For more information, just ask.

11/12: Bowling, 8pm, Same place, Valley & New in Alhambra. Per Alejandro. No arguments.
11/19: Beer at the Back Abbey in Claremont. 7pm. Be there.
For discussion:
Do we want December’s Father’s Office expedition to be to Santa Monica or down town? This will be decided on the 19th. (Update: Stan may make an appearance if we schlep out to Santa Monica.)

WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY! CLV and Sarahliz are putting on a DRINK THE VOTE party this year, and the DFMM is invading. Read CLV’s post on the matter, recognizing that YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL OF HER RULES. Bring your debating pants, your voters guide and a sixer/750 to share. PREPARE TO GET CIVIC.
Note that this will be taking the place of our regular beer night. We’ll try to carve some time out of the steel-cage citizenship match to plan our December beer night, not read minutes and chastise Alejandro for not setting up bowling this month.
I’d like to introduce a friend of the DFMM, even though they don’t know it yet: Bacon Lover’s Talk. This salty blog is marbled with delicious did-you-knows (Chicken Fried Bacon, bacon wall art) and sizzling questions (“Is jerky a kindred spirit to bacon?”).
Don’t forget to download your bacon pin-up calendar, or to visit Flickr’s BACON POOL, from which this food pr0n comes:

Ok, so I’m almost a week late getting the minutes from the last beer night out, and there are no pictures. Proof positive that the DFMM slacking ethic lives on, strong as ever.
We met last Wednesday night at Delerium in Sierra Madre. The crowd was the same as before with the one exception of Brad subbing in for Pat. Many good beers were had.
Here’s the official business:
- Ryan rejected the previous meeting’s minutes on account of they were typed and therefore showed effort. I think Ryan should bring the minutes to the next meeting in the form of an interpretive dance.
- Stephanie lead us in a toast for Mr. Jim Adams, dead homie of the DFMM.
- I purchased Stan a delicious pitcher of Craftsman’s Octoberfest. Too bad he didn’t show up to drink it. Pat, I’m buying your pitcher at the December beer night. Be warned.
- We are all reminded that bowling is this Thursday, 8pm, in Alhambra.
- Everyone had to decide which of the Brains, Looks, Muscle or Wild Card they are. Stephanie’s best recollection is: Brains: Alejandro and Stephanie. Looks: Sarahliz. Muscle: Brad and CLV (EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS NOT THERE). Wild Card: Ryan and Corey. Uselessful Girl/Irish Floozy: Jill. Token/expendable immigrant/ensign redshirt: Tej.
- To consider: Understanding the majesty that is Top Gear’s “A Star in a Reasonably Priced Car,” how much fun would it be for the DFMM to put on “An Idiot in a Reasonably Priced Car.” By which I mean acquiring a car by some legal means, taking it out to the desert, creating a track of sorts, all taking it in turns to drive around said track like idiots and filming it. We should all consider this for next month and see if we want to/can make it happen. CLV’s assistance will almost certainly be required to bring this to life if we decide to go for it.
- The next meeting will be a local (SGV) Ballot Brawl. We’ll have it either 10/22 (the traditional fourth Wednesday) or 10/29 (closer to election day), 7pm at somebody’s house. (TBD, although Brad and Sarahliz have volunteered.) Guests are encouraged — nay, required — to bring a sixer or 750 to share along with your voter’s guide, working ears, an open mind and your fightin’ pants.
- The December beer night — yes, we really are planning that far ahead — will be some time during the school kid’s winter break such that we can have it at Father’s Office in Santa Monica. (Unless we have it at the one down town.) As ever, date and time TBD.
And that’s about it. See you all at Bowling on Thursday!
